Standing Out in a Crowd

In some recent books that I have read, authors discuss how the scientific community will quickly dismiss anyone who begins to evaluate or give focus to a concept that does not fall into the approved parameters of that scientific community.

Many events, concepts, experiences, and repeatable evidence are discarded as they challenge the cookie cutter that has become “science.” Paranormal and religious experiences, even with mass evidence, get tossed aside like an annoying fly buzzing around your head. Don’t even start with crypids or any form of mythology or supernatural events.

Science was, at one time, a tool of discovery. It was constantly challenging and investigating everything in our world to make sense of it. It was flexible and in a state of flux, pushing limits and testing even theories that they were confident in.

Now, science has become a standard to follow, a “cookie cutter,” if you will. It is stagnant,  unforgiving, and close-minded. If you step outside that circle, you won’t get back into it.

Sorry about your luck. You should have played by the rules.

This is also true beyond science.  People let society shape a set of standards that they are required and expected to adhere to the collective and shed their individuality. Any thinking outside of this standard will make the individual an outcast.

Why do people follow the “herd mentality,” conforming to these standards? What happened to exploring knowledge and faith?

Yet, the most important question is, why does society get to determine what are acceptable thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors? It crushes the individual to form a desired utopia with unthinking minions. We lose our passion and our freedom to become just a drone in the collective.

The individual must transcend the collective, or they will lose themselves in the crowd.
