The Search for El Dorado

Most people have heard of the legend of El Dorado, a golden city where the king covers his entire body in gold dust. Many Spanish explorers and soldiers died in vain, attempting to find this mysterious city of gold.

It has solidified its place in legend and mythology. Yet, today, there are people who continue to seek this hidden city. They can feel in their heart that is there, yet every trail comes up cold only to be replaced by a new theory or revelation.

In our lives, we can feel like the Conquistador, Lope de Aguirre, searching for the city so long that we lose our lives to the pursuit without success. Our “golden city” is truth and meaning in life. We know it is there, but we are unable to find it, and at times, it truly can feel like a myth.

Do you continue to seek? Have you abandoned hope?

This world is clouded with an infinite supply of false truths, misdirection, conspiracy, deception, control, and a strong presence of  hedonism. All of this swirling around us can make things unclear and cause us to question the existence of truth.

The lost city. The lost truth.

But truth does exist. It has been hidden from us, so we wander aimlessly chasing clues. The reality is that it wants to be found, but we don’t always know how to look! Truth is seeking each of us to reveal itself, yet we are unable to see it. We rely on sources that desire to be called “truth” for their own gain, and we fall even further off the path to El Dorado.

For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. Ezekiel 34:11

The truth is actively seeking you. God is seeking you. If you want to find El Dorado, you need to let it find you. Only those who want to be found will be found.

Never give up pursuing what is good, moral, right, and holy. Block out the distractions and the innumerable lies that bombard you every day. God is not a legend or a myth. He is there looking for you to show you how to reach Him.

He will lead you to the city of gold.
